About us

Since 1997, FUNDUS THEATER has been Hamburg’s premiere venue for selected mobile children’s theater. It is home to the Hamburg Children’s Theater Festival and is dedicated to supporting emerging artists in the fields of performative research and participatory theater for young audiences.

The Project

Competence Center for Child Participation and Intergenerational Dialogue

What is needed to ensure that children are not only addressed in theater, but genuinely involved? FUNDUS THEATER takes this question seriously – and, drawing on its many years of experience, plans to develop a competence center for child participation and intergenerational dialogue. Together with both local and national partners, they are embarking on an open process: How can structures be created that embed children’s perspectives not only in individual projects, but on a lasting basis? In collaboration with universities, the German Child Protection Association, the City of Hamburg, FELD Theater, and not least its own children’s advisory board, FUNDUS THEATER aims to develop a model for real participation – positioning itself as a learning, researching institution carried equally by children and adults.

About us

The Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg gGmbH is a theatre partnership between the cities of Düsseldorf and Duisburg which can look back on a long tradition of collaboration between the two cities. Since it was founded in 1956, it has consistently been one of Germany’s largest opera houses.

The Project

A New Triad for the Opera House of the Future in Düsseldorf: Opera, Music School, and Music Library

The future alliance of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Music School, and the Music Library in Düsseldorf is unique in its composition – and challenging. Different forms of sponsorship, structures, and working methods come together, as do diverse target groups, programs, and perspectives. All the more important, then, is to create a foundation for collaboration that does not erase these differences but instead uses them as a strength. The initial planning for the new opera house has already been developed jointly – now it is a matter of bringing it to life. To achieve this, viable strategies will be worked out to explore interfaces, responsibilities, and synergies, to sharpen the profiles of each partner, and to formulate shared goals. The aim: an opera house of the future that embraces diverse voices and needs.

The Bielefeld Way: Transformation for Übermorgen – Reconnecting Culture

Change begins where vision and reality meet honestly. The stages and orchestras of the City of Bielefeld are determined to address the gap between their declared values – humanity, equality, participation and sustainability – and everyday working practice. Previous transformation projects have shown that isolated measures are not enough if underlying structures remain untouched. Real change requires a systemic approach embraced at every level – from leadership to staff. The programme now provides the necessary space to develop clear goals together with internal and external partners, to prepare resilient structures, and to build networks with other cultural institutions. The conviction is clear: sustainable transformation cannot succeed in isolation – it emerges through dialogue, collaboration, and a shared vision.
