About us

Today’s Konzerthausorchester Berlin was founded in 1952 as the municipal Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester (BSO).

The Project

Konzerthaus nextdoor

The Konzerthaus Berlin is embarking on a new chapter – reaching out into the city not merely through another dialogue format, but through a profound shift towards a new institutional identity. The aim is not only to affirm its place as a central and open concert hall on the Gendarmenmarkt, but also to engage meaningfully in lasting collaborations within Berlin’s urban life, taking in impulses from local neighbourhoods, diverse musical cultures, and the lived realities of the city. How can a concert hall build truly productive relationships with such a diverse urban society? Not as a one-way initiator, but in the spirit of genuine, mutual learning. To pursue this question, the Konzerthaus will initiate its first partnerships in various districts – designed to be long-term, built on equal footing, and shaped by local needs and potentials. In this way, decentralised presences will complement the opening of the house – enabling continuous transformation, both internally and externally, in step with the city’s dynamic rhythms.

About us

At around 200 events per year, visitors of the Konzerthaus Dortmund can experience the greatest international orchestras, the finest chamber music, top-class pop musicians and the best entertainment events.

The Project

Competence Center for Community Music

The Konzerthaus Dortmund is committed to music as a social force – connecting, participatory, and future-oriented. This focus has led to an emphasis on Community Music, a principle that invites people to make music together regardless of their background or musical ability, fostering participation, creativity, and a sense of community.
With the creation of a national Competence Center for Community Music, the aim is to establish a place where artistic, music education, and social activities intersect. In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as local partners in Dortmund and the surrounding area, a sustainable concept will now be developed as part of the program.
The goals are to consolidate existing training and coaching formats, identify new uses for the Konzerthaus, and lay the foundation for the nationwide dissemination and development of Community Music. Through a participatory process, this will result in a model for a music practice that builds community, enables participation, and creates lasting impact.

About us

With its unique enthusiasm and artistic quality, Ensemble Resonanz ranks among the world’s leading chamber orchestras. Their concepts connect classical and contemporary music, and their vivid interpretations create a field of resonance between the music, the audience and the stories that develop around the programmes.

The Project

community!music – Ensemble Resonanz Opens Doors

Music as a unifying force in a diverse urban society – Ensemble Resonanz seeks to explore this approach of community music as a forward-looking model for participation and artistic co-creation, with the aim of establishing it in the long term. The project is about rediscovering the St. Pauli district as a social space of resonance, engaging with neighbours, and experimenting with collaborative music-making on equal footing – regardless of background, age or prior musical experience. The focus is not on perfection, but on the shared experience and creation of music. At the same time, the musicians themselves embark on a journey of professional development, gaining new skills and perspectives – with the goal of embedding community music as a mindset within the ensemble
