The Project

Competence Center for Community Music

The Konzerthaus Dortmund is committed to music as a social force – connecting, participatory, and future-oriented. This focus has led to an emphasis on Community Music, a principle that invites people to make music together regardless of their background or musical ability, fostering participation, creativity, and a sense of community.
With the creation of a national Competence Center for Community Music, the aim is to establish a place where artistic, music education, and social activities intersect. In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as local partners in Dortmund and the surrounding area, a sustainable concept will now be developed as part of the program.
The goals are to consolidate existing training and coaching formats, identify new uses for the Konzerthaus, and lay the foundation for the nationwide dissemination and development of Community Music. Through a participatory process, this will result in a model for a music practice that builds community, enables participation, and creates lasting impact.
