Where the Future Happens
How can a place for exchange and encounter be created where everyone feels part of a vibrant community – without limiting it to the physical building itself? The Haus der Kunst München – House of Art Munich – wants to seize the “Übermorgen” opportunity to rethink its structures and to embed the rapidly advancing transformation, already reflected in its artistic programme, at an institutional level – both internally across departments and externally in its work with the community. The focus is on present-day values such as innovation, flexibility and community, with an emphasis on forward-looking live and digital formats, collaborations in public space, and programmes of education and participation. Sustainable, digital and participatory approaches are to be established across departments. In this way, the initiative will form the foundation of a future-proof organisational culture and a new identity – one that acts flexibly, independently and in a decentralised way, both on site and in the digital sphere.

The Cultural Post Office – A Place for Social Exchange
Five cultural institutions under one roof – that is the situation in the Neues Rathaus in Kiel. As part of its initiative, the Amt für Kultur und Weiterbildung – the municipal Office for Culture and Continuing Education – now aims to further develop the building as an open, inclusive Third Place, together with the people of the city.
The focus lies on the needs of users, the physical opening up of the building, and closer, more collaborative cooperation between the institutions themselves as well as with the independent scene. Existing structures – from barrier-free access to free offers – provide a strong foundation. The next step is to devise strategies for breaking down boundaries between the different areas – both architecturally and in programming – and to explore new spaces for encounter.

Rethinking Art Associations. Kunstverein Bielefeld, Kunstverein Siegen and the Temporary Gallery on the Way to a New Institutional Model
How can an art association act not only ecologically, but also socially sustainably – and place the common good at its centre? The Temporary Gallery in Cologne, together with the Kunstvereine Bielefeld and Siegen, is pursuing precisely this path: moving towards institutions that embrace decentralisation and community, that create spaces for exchange and serve as a resource for many. Within the framework of the programme, the model of the “permacultural institution” – developed by Aneta Rostkowska, Director of the Temporary Gallery – is being further explored, critically examined, and tested as a viable structure for the future of art associations. The model links art with social engagement, fosters flexibility and decentralisation, and places emphasis on sustainable practices. The aim is to deepen cooperation, share knowledge, jointly realise touring exhibitions – and to experiment with alternative, solidarity-based funding models that can give art associations greater independence.
